Police Investigating Reports of a Gun Brought to a Martin County School

The Martin County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a report of a student bringing a gun to school. Martin County School District Superintendent Larry James was notified after school hours Monday evening of the incident and immediately contacted authorities. While the investigation is ongoing, officials felt confident that it was an isolated incident. In a notice posted to the Martin County Schools Facebook page, Superintendent James assured parents that, while he prays there won’t be another incident, he will “handle it swiftly and with maximum disciplinary action.” James also said the school district will be partnering with law enforcement to educate students about reporting suspicions of danger.
