Kentucky Division of Forestry Downsizing Firefighting Operations

Due to weather conditions expected to work in the firefighters’ favor, the Kentucky Division of Forestry began downsizing operations Sunday to attend to the wildfires across the state. Hand crews from the Division of Abandoned Mine Lands and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources were let go and sent back to their home units. 27 fires are still to be controlled, but crews have been able to control 14 fires totaling nearly 11,000 acres.
