KY 550 in Knott County Closed Due to Potential Mine Blowout

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 12 officials have closed a section of KY550 in Knott County due to a potential mine blowout. No traffic will be allowed through the area, which is about two miles east of Mousie and three miles west of Lackey. Highway District 12 engineer Steve Green said this section of roadway will be closed indefinitely, as there is no way to tell what will happen. He explained water is coming out in three different places and the hillside is breaking up. To get to Lackey, motorists can take KY 80 to Garrett and then KY 7 to Lackey. To get to Mousie, travelers can take KY 80 to KY 1087 through Soft Shell.
