Beshear Warns of Seasonal Employment Scams

Attorney General Andy Beshear is warning Kentuckians to be wary of seasonal employment scams targeting those looking to make some extra cash for the holidays. The scam often appears as an online advertisement seeking a mystery shopper, package or shipping position, or similar employment where Kentuckians can work from home and receive immediate payment. The scam has new employees deposit a counterfeit check into his or her bank account, then they send the scammer or third-party a large amount of money to cover cost of equipment, training materials, or health insurance. Communication then stops with the scammer. Red flags of these jobs include pay in advance, hired without interview, high salary and few jobs duty details, and immediately asked to provide personal or financial information.
