Floyd County Student Looks for Photo Policy Change

At the Floyd County Board of Education meeting Monday night, Betsy Layne High School student Nick Stevens spoke on behalf of his classmates who felt the yearbook photo policy was unfair. Stevens presented his case to the board that excluding photos that contained items significant to the student didn’t show their individuality. Stevens presented a picture of himself with a bow, which was denied on the grounds that it was a weapon, but he defended the photo with schools in the county having archery teams. Betsy Layne High School Principal Cassandra Akers said it was a county wide policy to not allow props in outside photos for the yearbook. The board of education said they have listened to the grievance and will make a decision on the matter.
