Floyd County Superintendent Dr. Henry Webb announced Wednesday that Lindsay Caudill from Allen Central Middle School has won first place in the regional level of the VFW Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest and will advance to state competition. The annual contest is sponsored by the local VFW Post and gives students the opportunity to write about different patriotic themes. This year’s theme is “The America I Believe In.” One state winner will advance to national competition in Washington D.C., with prizes ranging from $500 to first receiving $5000.
