Around 1:15pm Thursday, April 20, Hazard Police received a report of a single vehicle collision on Laurel Street. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered that a red, 1996 Chevrolet truck, driven by 61-year-old Randall Howard of Gays Creek, had traveled over a concrete retaining wall after the driver failed to negotiate a curve. Howard’s passenger, Sandra Baker, 46, was uninjured and helped out of the truck by witnesses. She was concealing a bottle of vodka on her person and told officers she wasn’t in the vehicle at the time of the crash. She was cited for falsely reporting an incident. Howard was airlifted to Pikeville Medical Center. Alcohol is believed to be a factor and additional charges are likely.
