On Tuesday, April 18, 2017, Kentucky State Police Post 8 Morehead received information about a deceased female near Old State Road in Menifee County. Trooper Jason Brown and Detective Nathan Shortridge responded to the scene along with the Menifee County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, the body of Mariah Prater, age 18, of Lawrenceburg, was located in a ditch off the roadway. Shortly after, Austin Prater, age 20, of Frenchburg, was taken into custody by KSP and charged with murder. Mr. Prater is lodged at the Montgomery County Jail.
