Dr. Patsy Jackson and Toufic Saad were the recipients of the Great Teacher award at Big Sandy Community and Technical College and honored at commencement ceremonies on May 5 and 6 at the Mountain Arts Center. Dr. Jackson is the director of the associate degree nursing program and has been employed at the college since 1993. A nurse practitioner, she has taught adjunct for the University of Pikeville and Morehead State University. Saad, a professor of mathematics, grew up in the midst of civil war in his native Lebanon and came to the United States in 1981. He and his wife, Sandra, a professor of communication, have one daughter, Madison, who graduated from Johnson Central High School and BSCTC simultaneously this month.
