Hazard Man Arrested After Trying to Pass Counterfeit $100 Bills

On Monday, May 15, Hazard Police responded to a report of a person attempting to pass a counterfeit $100 dollar bill at Magic Mart in Lothair. Upon arrival, it was discovered that 41 year old Michael James, of Hazard, had attempted to pay for merchandise with the counterfeit bill. Officers spoke with James, who stated he had received the bill as part of a transaction at another business. Officers seized the bill as evidence and began an investigation. James was again discovered to be trying to pass off a $100 bill at Fast Lane Tobacco on Main Street on May 17. He was located in the Perry County Justice Center and arrested for one count of criminal possession of a forged instrument.
