Richmond, KY Man Sentenced for Embezzling Monday from Commercial Real Estate Companies

On Monday, July 31, a Richmond, KY man, who previously admitted to embezzling money from several related commercial real estate companies in Lexington, was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison. Robert Chaffins, 65, was sentenced to four counts of mail fraud. As Vice President of the Asset Management Division of a conglomerate of related entities, he was responsible for collecting rent payments from tenants renting business space. Between February 2007 until January 2016, Chaffins deposited over $1 million in checks to bank accounts he controlled on fees provided for in the leases that were not being collected.
