Floyd County Officials, Business Owners Looking to Get in Front of Hepatitis A Problem

The Floyd County Health Department, Floyd County and Prestonsburg officials, and local food service providers met on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 to discuss preventative measures against Hepatitis A. In an effort to be proactive, officials are encouraging local food service providers to get the Hepatitis Type A vaccine for all employees who are handling food. Floyd County Health Department Director Thursa Slone said there are a few cases of the diseases in the county currently being investigated. Prestonsburg Mayor Les Stapleton emphasized that currently there is no issue with the disease in the Floyd County and plans are being made to lessen the chance of any outbreaks in the area. Slone added that the health department is working with county officials to have staff and inmates at the Floyd County Jail vaccinated.
