A Kentucky woman spent the night in jail after police thought she was someone else.

Kim Bryant of Clay City was pulled over in Madison County for speeding, but police thought she was Kim Bryant wanted out of Paducah.

Police say their records showed she was a Kim Bryant wanted out of Paducah on a failure to appear warrant for writing a cold check 20 years ago.

Police say somehow her social security number matched up with the Kim Bryant out of Paducah. This particular Bryant, however, said she has never been to Paducah.

Bryant was released from jail just before noon on Thursday when officials say they fixed the mistake and realized she was not the Kim Bryant on the warrant.

Pre-trial officers in McCracken County said we would need to talk to police on how the mix-up happened. The McCracken County sheriff said he believes identity theft could be to blame.

Berea police said their officers followed due diligence and made an arrest based on the info they had.
