Breathitt County Man Pleads Guilty to Marijuana and Firearm Charges

A Breathitt County man has pleaded guilty to federal charges after holding state troopers at gunpoint when officers came to investigate a marijuana growing operation. 32-year-old Kevin Combs, of Lost Creek, pleaded guilty to cultivating more than 51 marijuana plants and brandishing a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime. According to Combs’ guilty plea agreement, on July 16, 2020, Kentucky State Police responded to an investigation regarding suspected marijuana plants. At the location, Combs confronted one of the officers with a loaded revolver. When the officer told Combs to lower his weapon, he refused, ran away and hid the firearm. Combs had several prior state felony convictions including fleeing and evading law enforcement, escape, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree and trafficking in a controlled substance in the second degree. Combs is scheduled to be sentenced on January 1, 2022. He faces a maximum of 20 years on the marijuana charge, and no less than seven years on the firearm charge.
