On Tuesday, the man accused of holding a teenage girl against her will in Laurel County was back in court. James Herbert Brick was facing unlawful imprisonment and possession of matter of a sexual performance by a minor. During court, kidnapping charges were added against him. The judge also raised Brick’s bond from $10,000 to $50,000.

Last Thursday Brick was arrested and the 16 year old girl was returned to her family in North Carolina.

According to court records, the girl’s family knew Brick; they lived close to one another at a campground in Cherokee, North Carolina. When she left with Brick, the family reported her missing.

Police say they had made it to Ohio where Brick’s relatives became concerned about their relationship. This is when the pair left and headed through Kentucky.

The girl had made the “distress call” hand gesture when a driver in Laurel County recognized the gesture and called the police.

Officials say Brick had an inappropriate picture of the girl, which police say he actually tried to delete from his phone.

Brick is still in jail, if he were to pay bond, he would be under house arrest.
