Troopers with the State Police spend over an hour this past Monday morning, searching for a suspect who had managed to get away from them.

The officers were on the hunt for a grey passenger car in Indian Creek in relation to a complaint they were investigating. One of the officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to make a stop at around 1:00 AM. The driver of the vehicle, 34-year-old Eric Newsome, of Virgie, began to speed away onto RT 122, towards Virgie.

The vehicle led police onto RT 610 and then onto Monkey Town road, where Newsome is said to have exited the vehicle and ran away from the scene. He was later located walking along Penny Highway, which prompted him to jump into a nearby creek in an attempt to escape. However, Newsome was stopped with a taser.

He now faces charges of fleeing police- on foot and in a car, resisting arrest, and several traffic violations. Newsome is said to have also been wanted on a total of 10 warrants out of Pike County.
