A man out of Breathitt County has been sentenced to over 8-years in prison after he was charged for trafficking in marijuana.

32-year-old Kevin Combs, of Lost Creek, was sentenced to 105 months in federal prison. The sentencing came on Tuesday, after Combs pleaded guilty to cultivating over 50 marijuana plants and brandishing a firearm in connection to a drug trafficking crime.

Combs pleaded guilty in September of 2021. His plea-agreement states that, on July 16th, 2020, Troopers with the Kentucky State Police responded to an investigation involving the cultivation of marijuana plants in a field.

When troopers arrived at the location, Combs is said to have confronted at least one of the officers, pointing a loaded revolver at him. The officer instructed Combs to lower his pistol; instead he ran away and hid the firearm. The gun was later recovered.

Combs admitted to police that he had cultivated over 50 marijuana plants on the property. He also has prior state felony convictions, including fleeing and evading police, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first-degree, and trafficking in a controlled substance in the second-degree.

According to federal law, Combs is required to serve at least 85% of his prison sentence.
