A former officer with the Logan Police Department was sentenced on Thursday to nine-years in prison after he used excessive force against an arrestee, violating his civil rights in the process, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

45-year-old Everett Maynard was additionally ordered to serve three-years of supervised release.

In November of last year, Maynard was convicted by a federal jury of using excessive force against an arrestee.

Jurors received information that Maynard had assaulted the victim in the bathroom of the Logan Police Department, then drug the man to another room, ramming his head into a doorframe.

The victim was left with a broken shoulder, broken nose, and a cut to the head which required staples – he was also knocked unconscious. Additionally, Maynard is said to have bragged about his excessive use of force.
