A Southern Kentucky man is now facing charges after he allegedly shot his own mother on Mother’s Day.
Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Officials say they received a call relaying that someone had been shot and were en-route to the Wayne County Hospital in Monticello.
A second message was received, saying the alleged shooter was waiting at a neighbor’s house for police to come for him.
Upon their arrival, deputies were met by the suspect, 22-year-old Jacob Small, of Monticello. He informed officers that he and his mother had gotten into a fight over an Xbox controller.
As his mother and another woman were leaving the home, Small is said to have fired a rifle into the vehicle, hitting his mother.
Police recovered the rifle used in the shooting.
The mother was transported to the Wayne County Hospital and then to the University of Kentucky for her injuries. Her condition at this time is unknown.
Small has been charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal mischief. He is currently being held in the Wayne County Detention Center.
