One Person Dead Following Crash

Kentucky State Police Officials are currently investigating a fatal crash in Rockcastle County.

Officials responded to a three-vehicle crash on KY 461 Lake Cumberland Road at around 11:30 PM on Saturday. One person is said to have died as a result of the crash.

22-year-old Austin R. Smith was traveling east on Level Green Road with four passengers in his vehicle.

Smith attempted to cross KY 461 onto Blue Springs Road. He failed to stop at a stop sign, however, and collided with a Gold 2000 Ford F-150.

The driver of the F-150, Buford W. Raider, was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital before later being released.

Smith and two of his passengers were taken to Rockcastle County Regional Hospital, whereas a third passenger did not seek treatment. The fourth passenger was also airlifted to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Austin Smith later died as a result of his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital by the Rockcastle County Coroner’s Office.

An autopsy is now scheduled for Smith in Frankfort.
