
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a scam that is going around Lawrence County.
Officials with the sheriff’s office said that the scammers are using the sheriff’s office phone number and claiming they are from Homeland Security. The scammers are using spoofing in order to mask the phone number.
The scammers are calling random people and are trying to obtain personal information by impersonating Homeland Security and claim the potential victim had their identity stolen or threaten to arrest the victim if they don’t pay a fine.
Officials with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office said they will never call civilians with demands and solicit money. They ask that if you receive this scam call to report it by visiting reportfraud.ftc.gov/.
