Kentucky State Police will partner with the Drug Enforcement Agency on October 22, 2016 in a collaborative effort to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from home medicine cabinets. Collection activities will take place from 10am to 2pm in every KSP Post area across the state. Participants may dispose of solid dose pharmaceutical products in its original container or by removing the medication from its container and disposing directly into disposal box at drop off locations. Liquid medications, such as cough syrup, should remain in its original container with a tight seal. Intravenous solutions, injectables, and syringes will not be accepted due to potential hazard of blood-borne pathogens. And illicit substances, such as marijuana and methamphetamine are not part of this initiative and should not be placed in collection containers. Since the program began in 2010, nearly 10,000 pounds of prescription medication have been collected.
