On Saturday, April 8, around 11:30pm, eight inmates at the Boyd County Detention Center inhaled a substance believed to be heroin. All of them were transported to Kings Daughters Medical Center and were released approximately five hours later. An inmate arrested during a drug bust by the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department brought the powder substance into the facility. The inmate, Felicia Hayes, was strip searched during booking, but had the drugs hidden deep enough in a body cavity they weren’t visible at the time. After snorting the powder, several inmates began having overdose symptoms. Hayes was charged with possession of controlled substance, promoting contraband, and wanton endangerment. The other seven inmates were charged with promoting contraband.
