Following the events in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday, August 12, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray announced that he will be taking action to relocate Confederate statues at the Historic Courthouse. In a message posted to his official Facebook page, he wrote the events accelerated the announcement he had planned to make this week. In a video statement, Gray said that the dark and tragic time in our nation’s history should be remembered, but that it must be explained accurately and truthfully. He said that he has recommended that the statues be relocated to the Veterans Park War Memorial Wall along with two monuments to the Union effort in the Civil War.
