UPDATE: Body Identified as College Student

Update: A Grand Jury will hear the murder case against a Calloway county man who has been charged in connection to the fatal shooting of Murray State University student Sarah Townsend. During a preliminary hearing Wednesday morning, Judge Randall Hutchens found enough evidence against 22 year old Julius Sotomayor to send his case to a grand Jury.

Sotomayor was arrested after police found Townsend’s vehicle in his driveway. He will go before the Grand Jury next week.

A body that had been found in a ditch has been identified as 21 year old Sarah Townsend. The Murray State University student was found near Cherry Corner in Calloway County early Friday morning, and had died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Sarah’s body was at first unidentified but police posted a description as well as photos of her shoes and were able to find the identity of the victim.

22 year old Julius Sotomayor has been arrested in connection, after police obtained traffic tapes of Sotomayor behind the wheel of Sarah’s car.

Sotomayor has been charged with Murder, (auto) theft by unlawful taking, and tampering with physical evidence. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
