Three Indicted On Federal Drug Charges Following Months-Long Investigation

An update from the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office:

 

On January 26, 2023 three Harlan County men were indicted by a Federal Grand Jury for multiple drug charges. These indictments come after several months of investigation by Appalachia Narcotics Investigations, Kentucky State Police Post 10, and the DEA.

 

Steve Williams of Cumberland has been charged with Conspiracy to Distribute a Mixture or Substance Containing Methamphetamine, Possession with Intent to Distribute 500 Grams or More of a Mixture or Substance Containing Methamphetamine, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. 

 

Lawrence Lucas of Lynch and Walter K. Smith of Cumberland have been charged with Conspiracy to Distribute a Mixture or Substance Containing Methamphetamine, Possession with Intent to Distribute 500 Grams or More of a Mixture or Substance Containing Methamphetamine. 

 

It is alleged these individuals have been trafficking in large amounts of methamphetamine in Harlan County as well as southwest Virginia and east Tennessee. More indictments are anticipated.
