Mrs. Linda Elliott will be the guest author speaker at the Floyd County School District’s Young
Authors’ Celebration on March 26, 2023, at the Floyd Central High School’s auditorium. The Young
Authors’ program invites students in kindergarten through eighth grade to choose a writing from
their classwork and publish it into a digital book. This year, one hundred forty-four student authors
will be recognized and treated to a message from Mrs. Elliott, the guest author.
Mrs. Elliott has published seven children’s books. Her first was a “flip” book, which meant two books inside one cover. “It was a fun idea!” laughed Linda. One side of her book is titled: Pumpkin’s Pilgrimage, and the other side of the book is titled: Back Street Butterfly. A local illustrator, Lewis Newman, and Linda Elliott did the artwork for the flipbook. Then, Linda found herself without an illustrator.
“What am I going to do?” she considered. “All I could draw was stick figures. Then, it was like the Lord gave me the talent,” stated this author! “I had drawn with stick figures, and now, I was beginning to create characters and illustrate my own books!”
“I love to write, and I love the Young Authors’ program,” stated Linda, who is a retired primary teacher from the Floyd County School District. “I taught kindergarten and first grade at McDowell Elementary. My students and I did books and entered them into the Young Authors’ program every year! One year, we won seven of the seven kindergarten and first-grade categories at the school level! Boy! Did we party!” recalled Linda. “As a teacher, I loved this program, maybe more than any of the extra things we did, and I loved including writing in my classroom!”
Other titles by Linda Elliott include: Billy Bob’s Bean Patch, Dr. Cow, The Everything Tree, Who’s Going to Tie Your Shoes, Flayvo The Can Do Donkey (all available at: Your Online Publicist), and Pumpkin’s Pilgrimage and Back Street Butterfly are available from Amazon.com or Acclaim Press, Morley, MO. The author has copies of Pumpkin’s Pilgrimage and Back Street Butterfly that can be purchased from her.
Linda is a retired teacher, and she and her husband, Willie Elliott, a retired educator, live at McDowell. They both love writing and sharing stories.
