Daylight Saving Time is the period of the year where we move clocks forward by one hour in order to better preserve use of daylight. The Uniform Time Act allows states to opt out of DST staying on standard time year-round and this year, a Kentucky State Representative thinks it might be time to stop springing forward and falling back. “Kentucky needs to stand up and say, we don’t want our time dictated by the nation. We want to do it ourselves,” said Rep. Steven Doan, R-Erlanger. “So what my bill would do is it would keep us under Standard Time, what the time currently is, we would keep it here, and when we spring forward, we wouldn’t set our clocks” Less than 40% of countries in the world use DST, and 2 US States, Arizona and Hawaii do not observe daylight saving time. Representative Doan says that health effects that occur during time change periods actually pushed him to file.
