Former UK Player DeMarcus Cousins Sought By Many Teams This Off-season

DeMarcus Cousins was part of John Calipari’s first squad at the University of Kentucky. Like many of Calipari’s Wildcats, he was only in Lexington for one year, leaving along with fellow freshman John Wall. Cousins has played his entire career in the NBA so far with the Sacramento Kings. With free agency and the NBA Draft on every team’s minds….trades are also starting to make noise. While the Boston Celtics have long said they will seek to trade for Cousins before the season begins this fall, other teams are also showing interest in the All-star center. The Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic have began dialogue with the Kings about a three-team deal that would land Cousins in Los Angeles. All three teams hold top six picks in this year’s draft. It is widely believed the Lakers will keep the #2 pick and get either Karl Anthony Towns or Jahill Okafor. The three teams are currently in talks about the deal, but Sacramento’s Vlade Divac (who played for the Lakers in the early ’90s) has said it would take a lot to part with “our best player.” The Denver Nuggets have also shown interest in Cousins and they just hired Mike Malone as head coach. Malone is a favorite of Cousins and this could sweeten a possible deal.
