Kentucky’s treasurer’s race has been a competition between Eastern Kentuckians. The Appalachian region of Kentucky has birthed some powerful politicians, but in general has lagged behind in the political field. Today voters across the Commonwealth are almost assured to send an Eastern Kentuckian to the treasurer’s office. Republican Allison Ball is an attorney from Prestonsburg, and Democrat Rick Nelson is a retired teacher and legislator from Middlesboro.
