$1.3 Billion Aluminum Mill Coming to Greenup County, Create 550 Jobs

A major US metals company has picked Greenup County for a $1.3 billion aluminum mill. Braidy Industries’ aluminum mill will create 550 jobs and produce 370,000 tons of sheet and plate for the automotive and aerospace industries. Governor Matt Bevin was in Wurtland to help make the announcement. He said “These are the jobs of the 21st century. It will be the most efficient. It will be the most modern. It will be the most environmentally friendly mill of its kind anywhere in America. And it will result in a ripple effect that will touch so many of us beyond what we can even imagine.” Braidy Industries chairman and CEO Craig Bouchard says the new plant will revitalize the region and raise the bar for aluminum production globally. Average wages at the facility will be $70,000 a year. Construction begins early next year with completion in 2020.
