Congressman Rogers Issues Statement on President’s Opioid Epidemic Public Health Emergency Declaration

US Representative Hal Rogers attended President Trump’s announcement at the White House on Thursday, October 26, 2017, where he declared the country’s opioid epidemic a public health emergency. Representative Rogers issued a statement, saying eastern Kentucky was one of the original epicenters of the epidemic. He applauded President Trump for raising the stakes. In recent years, Congress has appropriated more than $8 billion annually across the federal government toward anti-drug enforcement, treatment, education, and research efforts.
